NANAIMO — RCMP have identified the man killed in a shocking daylight shooting in south Nanaimo.

Nanaimo RCMP said 34-year-old Troy Dax McKinnon was shot and killed just before 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13 in the Hawthorne Corner townhouse complex at Wakesiah Ave. and Jingle Pot Rd.

No arrests have been made in what police believe was a targeted shooting. In their original statement about the incident, Mounties said “The deceased is known to police.”

A man with the same name and age as McKinnon pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and kidnapping in relation to a violent 2011 kidnapping in Vancouver. Court records also showed a man with the same name and age has a criminal record dating back as far as 2003, with convictions for offences including assault with a weapon and uttering death threats.
