Non-credible bomb threat evacuates Nanaimo elementary school

Jun 14, 2017 | 11:28 AM

NANAIMO — For the first time in years, a bomb threat was made against a Nanaimo elementary school.

According to Dale Burgos, executive director of communications with Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools, the threat against Park Ave. Elementary School was discovered at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. Students and staff were evacuated to John Barsby Secondary School while the school was searched before the all-clear was given. No threat was found.

Burgos said it was the first time an elementary school was targetted since he’s worked with the school district.

“We’ve had different threats in the past which have affected all schools, but this one in particular is different,” he said.
