Planning for new walkway through Harewood neighbourhood well underway

NANAIMO — A strategic priority for the City of Nanaimo is receiving support from the community.

The Georgia Greenway is designed to stretch more than three kilometres through the Harewood neighbourhood, linking the Parkway Trail to shopping centres and schools. Phase 1 is a section of the path through the Harewood Centennial Park and includes a new bridge over Chase River.

The public feedback portion of the project is just finishing up. Kurtis Noble with the City of Nanaimo’s engineering department, said they’ve heard “generally positive” feedback from residents excited to see development in the Harewood area.

“With any project there are always a few concerns of change in the neighbourhood, but generally speaking the feedback has been positive,” Noble said.
