NANAIMO — The first half of 2017 will be election heavy for Nanaimo residents.

City council unanimously voted in favour of a byelection on July 8 to replace former councillor Wendy Pratt, who resigned Friday, April 7.

It will follow the event centre referendum on March 11 and the upcoming provincial election on May 9.

Acting city clerk Sheila Gurrie said the July 8 date gives everyone some space.
