Iconic downtown Nanaimo landmark renovations complete

NANAIMO — The latest upgrade to Nanaimo’s Italian Fountain has finished.

Over the years, the local downtown landmark has received many upgrades such as better plumbing and new tiles. The recently completed renovations included a deeper tank as well as new programmable lights and better spray features.

“Lots of work has gone into the fountain over the last two-and-a-half years and it looks great,” facility planning manager Art Groot said in a release.

The fountain was originally created by the local Italian community to celebrate B.C.’s 100th anniversary.

The City said the new lights will be used often to support various awareness campaigns and special events throughout the year.
