Volunteering in the community something to ponder on National Philanthropy Day

Nov 15, 2016 | 11:56 AM

NANAIMO — National Philanthropy Day comes with a call to donate money or your time to a worthy cause.

Volunteer Nanaimo is just one place to go if you would like to start volunteering.

Spokesperson Linda Reynolds says there are literally thousands of people doing their part in the community already.

“Working for just us we’ve probably got about 50. But in total we have about 25,000 because we are involving other non-profit agencies. We help them help the community, so indirectly we’ve got more people working for them because of us,” said Reynolds.

If you know you want to help in the community but you aren’t sure what to do, Reynolds says their website is an excellent resource.

“We have a listing of all the jobs that are available there at www.volunteernanaimo.ca. All the listings are there for any agency in town who’s looking for help at the moment,” said Reynolds. “So you can choose which one you want to help.”

Volunteer Nanaimo has been around for 30 years and Reynolds has been involved for 15 of those.

As she puts it – “I would never leave, I just love it.”

For Reynolds and the rest of the crew at Volunteer Nanaimo, Philanthropy Day isn’t just one day of the year, it’s every day.
