NANAIMO — The VI Raiders snapped a two game losing streak Saturday night to get back to the .500 mark on the season.

The Raiders came from behind and stole a 16-13 decision from the Broncos at Kamloops’ Hillside Stadium.

The Broncos held a 10-point lead heading into halftime, but the Raiders defense stiffened in the second half, holding Kamloops off the scoreboard in the final 30 minutes.

VI QB Jake Laberge led a final-minute drive that was capped by a game-winning field goal from James Parker with just 19 seconds left on the clock.

The Nanaimo club is now 3-3 on the season and sit in fourth spot in the BCFC standings.

Next action for the Raiders is Saturday, September 10 when they travel to Langley to take on the 4-2 Rams.

Exhibition hockey for a pair of local teams 

In the BCHL, the Nanaimo Clippers dropped a 4-3 contest to the Cowichan Valley Capitals Saturday night in Duncan.

The Clippers are back on the ice on Tuesday when they take on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on the road.

The regular season opens for Nanaimo on September 9, when they host the Bulldogs at Frank Crane Arena.

In the VIJHL, the Oceanside Generals fell 4-3 to the Kerry Park Islanders at home. The Generals are back on the ice Sunday afternoon at 2:30, when they host the Campbell River Storm at Oceanside Place.  

The regular season opens on September 2 for the Generals when they travel to Campbell River.
