Cassidy Inn Burns to the Ground

Jul 8, 2016 | 11:35 AM

A historic building south of Nanaimo is gone, burned to the ground in a fire early Tuesday morning.

The Cranberry Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at the Cassidy Inn late Monday night.

Crews from North Oyster, North Cedar, Extension and Ladysmith Fire Departments all helped fight the flames at the now abandoned building, north of the Nanaimo Airport.

It’s believed no one was injured in the fire. There have been reports of squatters living there recently, but it’s believed no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
