Three VIU Mariners earn monthly honours from BCIHL

NANAIMO — Three players from the VIU Mariners men’s hockey program have earned league-wide recognition.

Fourth year Mariners forward Gavin Rauser was named player of the month by the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Rauser leads all players in scoring with four points from two games.

Rauser’s scored three times, adding one assist to help VIU to wins over the Okanagan Lakers and University of Victoria.

Goaltender Derek Krall was named goaltender of the month for October, helping the Mariners to a 2-0 start.

Krall played in just the one league game, stopping 15 of 16 shots in a 4-1 win over the Lakers. He was also named first star in the team’s final exhibition game against Simon Fraser University on Oct. 2.

Finally, forward Brock Palmer was named rookie of the month for his three points in two games.

The Mariners sit atop the BCIHL standings and visit Simon Fraser University on Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6.
