Nanaimo man facing 14 charges after gun scare in Harewood
NANAIMO — A Nanaimo man is out on bail facing more than a dozen weapons charges after allegedly creating a scare in Harewood.
Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said they got a call around 5 p.m. on Friday, March 16 after someone spotted a man with a handgun and ammo in the 600 block of Seventh St.
“Given the fact the individual was known to us (and) he had a history of using firearms, we contacted our Emergency Response Team and several of their members along with our general duty members attended to the home,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.
Facebook groups lit up with comments from concerned residents describing armed officers and police dogs in the area telling people to be quiet and get inside immediately.
