NOVEMBER 18, 1944 ~ AUGUST 3, 2019 (AGE 74)
On the morning of August 3, Denise Kathleen Webb (Edwards) watched her grandson play baseball in a provincial tournament then took her granddaughter for lunch, shopping and crafts. In the afternoon, she was gone.
Born on November 18, 1944, Denise is predeceased by her parents, Carlisle and Kathleen, and her brother, Robert. She is survived by her sister, Janice, her brother, David, her children, Christopher (Julie), Sarah (Tim) and David (Erin) and her grandchildren Naia, Sloan, Luke, Reeves and Connor.
Strong—physically and mentally—and fiercely independent, Denise had an adventurous spirit and a welcoming heart. Her spirit beamed when she rode a bus to Mexico in 1969; when she built a homestead in rural Nanaimo during the ‘70s; when she took the leap into a legacy tourism business in the ‘80s; when she renovated her home, hands-on, in her sixties; and, in recent years, when she raced a skeleton down the Whistler Sliding Centre and a zipline over the Alaskan rainforest—to note just a few occasions.
Her heart was on display at her home, where she loved to entertain, tend to her brilliant garden or simply read—she was a voracious reader—with a mug of black coffee and her cat at her feet. Denise had an open door to all. Her dinner table was the irreplaceable hearth of the Webb family.
Her home still holds a well-played piano, first-edition Margaret Atwoods and J.R.R. Tolkiens, plant- and bird-reference guides stacked in a tower and a spare room with the bed ready for visiting family. Denise is gone too soon, too suddenly and her children, siblings and friends will forever miss her deeply.
A celebration of life will be held at 1526 Memory Lane, Qualicum Beach, on September 7, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. All are welcome.
