SEPTEMBER 9, 1950 ~ JANUARY 6, 2019 (AGE 68)
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Trenholm on January 6, 2019. He passed away peacefully in his home after a prolonged illness, bravely borne. Bruce was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is now at peace and has gone home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Al & Millie Trenholm and sister, Addie Stenberg. He is survived by Marlene, his loving wife of 42 years, sons Matthew (Justine), Stuart (Leah), and by his precious grandsons Ewan and Zachary. Bruce is also survived by his sister Ruth, and brothers Greg (Virginia), Milo (Sheila), Frank (Martina) and Colin, and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Born in Sidney, BC, in 1950, Bruce grew up in Tahsis, BC, and later moved to Port Alberni. In 1975 he became a professional firefighter, dedicating his career to serving others with the City of Port Alberni Fire Department and retiring as a Fire Captain after 32 years of service.
In his retirement, Bruce took a position (until his health dictated otherwise) as the Administrator of the Port Alberni Homeless Shelter, and as a tutor with the Literacy Alberni Society – finding both positions very rewarding.
We would like to give our sincerest appreciation and a special thank-you to Ralston & Rhoda, Tom & Diane, Matt & Elma, Ken & Dee, and Phil, who were always there for Bruce. He particularly liked his frequent journeys and coffee around the Alberni valley with Ralston, and his excursions and lunches with Phil, and his many outings with Ken. He also looked forward to his weekly coffee and conversation with Tom & Matt at Tim Horton’s and greatly appreciated everyone’s emails, phone calls and home visits which always lifted his spirits.
A special thank-you to Dr. Wendy Johnsen and the wonderful home-care nurses of the Port Alberni Palliative Home & Community Care, for their sincere and heart-felt care. Also, thank you to Dr. Longman.
Funeral service to be held at Yates Memorial Services, 4470 Gertrude Street, at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, with tea to follow.
In lieu of flowers, and if you so choose, donations on Bruce’s behalf can be made to Ty Watson House or the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
