Irene D. Telfer: Died peacefully on January 13, 2020, having just turned 71, at Trillium Hospice in Parksville, BC, Canada where she was looked after with kindness and skill during the last two weeks of her life. She had been ill since early September with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Bert and Jessie Scott from Largs, Scotland. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John; by her son Justin and his wife, Suzanne, and their daughter Isla (11), residing in Golden, BC; by her other son Mark, residing in Penticton, BC; and by her brother Derek and his wife, Diane, residing in Largs.
Irene and John moved to Vancouver Island in January 2010 having previously lived in Ontario, primarily in Kitchener-Waterloo, for over thirty years and for a few years in St Albert, Alberta.
She had many friends in the Oceanside Newcomers Alumni Society and in the Qualicum Beach Seniors’ Activity Centre, where she occasionally taught yoga.
Irene is fondly remembered by all who knew her for her constant enthusiasm and ready smile.
At her request, her cremation was held at a private ceremony on January 18 and will be followed by a Celebration of Life in May. Details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Irene’s memory to a charity of your choice.
