JUNE 19, 1947 ~ MARCH 26, 2019 (AGE 71)
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Janice Leslie Smyth (Torry) on March 26, one day past her 47th wedding anniversary to husband Albert. Survived by son Ron (Danni), daughter Charleen Jensen (Jeff) and four beautiful granddaughters (Bobbi, Charlli, Hayley and Malia), brothers Bill Torry (Bobbie), John Torry (Sherry), her nephews and nieces, mother-in-law Doreen Smyth and many friends and extended family. Predeceased by parents Jim & Tess Torry, sister Dorothy, nephew Dustin Torry and father-in-law Charles Smyth.
Born in Vancouver, BC on June 19, 1947, Jan spent time in Langley, Denman Island and Courtenay before settling in the Parksville area for the past 47 years. Jan’s nursing career began at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, continuing on at Nanaimo Regional Hospital, followed by 30 years at Trillium Lodge in Parksville. She touched the hearts of residents in her care, their families, and fellow co-workers. Jan enjoyed the Christmas season and making trays of baked goodies, camping and travelling, and spending time with family and friends.
The family sends a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Trillium Lodge for all of their support and extra loving care that they all gave Jan as a member of the Trillium family. You all are members of Jan’s family too. To Dr. Brad Bell you are always there for our family and as a friend, thank you. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Fan Liu at Westhill Dental Clinic, Dr. Juralowicz and Dr. Sulz.
In keeping with Jan’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Jan’s memory may make donations in her name to either BC Children’s Hospital or the Alzheimer Society of BC.
