APRIL 16, 1942 ~ AUGUST 5, 2018 (AGE 76)
Born April 16, 1942 in Edmonton Alberta, Alick passed away on August 5, 2018 at home in Coombs with his family at his side.
Predeceased by his parents Alick and Margaret (McCabe) Smith of Victoria and special in-laws Stan and Doris Smith of Deep Bay.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Sharon, daughters Cheryll and Karen Smith, grandsons Alex Mercer, Taylor and Brandon Hutchison, favourite granddaughter Chelsea (Josh) Mercer and great-grandsons Travis and Connor Mercer, his brother Jack (Joan) Smith and sister Darlene Jury.
Dad apprenticed as a mechanic and worked his way to be a machine operator in Victoria. In 1978 mom and dad purchased an excavator, started their own business and followed the work to Coombs where they built their home. There are many happy memories of building, renovations, landscaping, camping, fishing and spending time with friends and family. We will miss his sense of humour and “great wisdom”. He was always there for us when we needed him.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Hunter, the home care nurses, Dr. Morris and his nurses Linda and Michaela.
There will be no service by request. The family will gather for a private remembrance and celebration of his life in the near future. Donations in Alick’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
