FEBRUARY 3, 1935 ~ AUGUST 11, 2019 (AGE 84)
Lorna Schug left us suddenly on August 11, 2019. Lorna was born on February 3, 1935 and grew up in a busy yours/mine/ours/theirs family comprised of siblings and cousins on a farm near Bowden, Alberta. She was predeceased by Rene, her husband of 58 years, as well as three brothers, Clifford, William and Ernie, and four brothers-in-law, Raynald, Andy, Emile and Fred. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Kushnir of Calgary and sister-in-law, Nelline Shiels of Keremeos BC, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy were her children: Deborra (Bruce) Adkins, Douglas Schug, Larry (Angela) Schug and Angela (Tom) Virs; grandchildren, Melissa (Tyler) Cody, Adam Schug, Travis Schug, Kathleen Johnstone, Dylan (Julia) Adkins, Morgan (Elizabeth) Adkins, Emma Adkins (Travis) Shook, Olivia Virs, Spencer Virs, Ashley Schug, and Mercedes Virs; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Nathan, and Finnley Cody and Levi, Avery and Lily Schug. Sadly, she missed meeting the newest great-grand, Diana Shook, born just before she passed.
Married in 1954, Lorna and Rene moved to Powell River then in 1963 to Port Alberni. In 1968, they purchased the Sea Edge Motel and moved their young family to Parksville. They retired in 1988 and began to travel extensively, visiting Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China and more. They also put many miles on their RV, with several trips across Canada, the US and to Mexico.
In January 2018, Lorna invited her friend of more than 40 years, Cheryle Cook, to share her home. The Platinum Girls took care of each other and enjoyed many good times together.
Lorna will be dearly missed by a large circle of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation.
Please join us August 26 at 1 pm at Yates Memorial Services for a celebration of Lorna’s life.
