(December 20, 1939 – July 27, 2017) Our good-natured and loving George passed away in the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital following a stroke. He will be deeply missed by his daughter Michelle, son Morgan (Kristy), granddaughter Rowan, former wife Diane, sisters Sandra (Bob) and Linda, sister-in-law Ruth, and many other family members and countless friends. He was predeceased by his brother Garry and his parents Sandy and Marion Reid.
George was born in Calgary and moved to Nanaimo in 1971 when he started his rewarding career as a Fisheries Biologist with the BC Government. He was a talented and committed biologist and throughout his career he protected and preserved numerous fish populations and habitats across Vancouver Island. He was an active member of the community serving on numerous boards, including the John Howard Society and the United Way of Nanaimo.
George retired after 33 years with the Government and enjoyed fishing, swimming and coffee with his many friends. He was a kind, caring, and fun-loving man who will be missed by his family and a wide circle of friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday Aug. 5, 2017 at First Memorial, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
