DECEMBER 29, 1931 ~ DECEMBER 26, 2018 (AGE 86)
Ed was born and grew up in Coleman, Alberta. His wife Kate, was with him at NRGH when he passed away on the night of December 26th.
Ed is survived by his second wife Kate, sons David of Surrey, Rodney (Judy) of Fort St. John and by two granddaughters, Victoria (Richard), Lauren (Jason) and three great grandchildren.
In 1949 Ed joined the Canadian Navy and served as a Marine Engineer (ERA). He served on a variety of ships and travelled the world. First stationed in Halifax, he married Ida Ward of Chipman, NB in 1952. Later in his naval career, Ed was stationed in Esquimalt (Victoria) until he retired from the Navy in 1974. He then started working for BC Ferries. He and Ida moved to Campbell River and then later to Parksville. Ed continued his career as a Marine Engineer aboard the jaunty ship MV “Nimpkish” on the Quadra to Cortes Island run until his retirement. Ed’s wife of 49 years, Ida passed in 2001. He was also predeceased by a son Brian (1955).
Ed loved outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and cross-country skiing. He also enjoyed music and dancing.
In Parksville, he met Kate (Williams) and they married in 2009. For several years they travelled in their motor home around Vancouver Island, to Mexico and Inuvik.
A Service for Ed will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 795 Island Highway West in Parksville on Friday January 4th at 1 PM.
A reception will be held after the service in the church hall.
