JULY 26, 1961 ~ AUGUST 5, 2019 (AGE 58)
It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the sudden, and unexpected, passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Mike passed away at home on Monday, August 5th, 2019. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Blazena; son, Phil (Alicia); mother, Hana; brother, Martin; cousin, Libuse; and numerous extended family members and close friends.
Mike’s story began in Czechoslovakia where he spent the first 26 years of his life. The son of a butcher and warehouse secretary, his love for animals and the sciences led him to veterinary medicine which he practiced for a number of years. Due to political hardships of the time and inability to pursue life goals, he and Blazena left communist Czechoslovakia in the late 80s seeking the life they had always envisioned. They landed in Montreal and settled in Toronto where they soon welcomed son, Phil. Mike’s interests in fish and love for the outdoors/ocean motivated him to study Aquaculture which lead him west to BC where he found his calling in Tofino and surrounding Clayoquot Sound. Mike put in over 20 years on the ocean giving his heart and sole into everything he did.
Mike had many interests outside of work. From fishing and hunting, gardening and woodwork, skiing and traveling, to obedience training with our Cocker spaniel, Barcha; he was always busy and active. With a dream project of building a little ski cabin under way and recently getting back into motorcycle riding; he was looking forward to slowing down and begin to enjoy semi retirement. Nothing described Mike better than a guy who always had projects on the go and worked hard every day to better himself and the lifestyle of his family.
Mike had a passion for life and dedicating the time to set his family up for future success. He believed in working hard for what you wanted and he did just that. Although he is gone far too soon, the stories/memories will last a lifetime and continue to warm our hearts everyday.
