Hans Andersen Nielsen – December 27, 1924 to July 25, 2024
In Memory of Hans Andersen Nielsen Hans Nielsen was born on December 27, 1924 in Tonder, Denmark. Hans passed away in his home with family at his side on July 25, 2024, in Nanaimo, Canada. He was 99 years old. Hans immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his wife, Johanna, and daughter, Ann-Marie. He fully embraced his new country and new language. Hans and his young family settled in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where he worked as a plumber; and formed Hans Nielsen Plumbing and Heating. Along with Nielsen Plumbing, Hans had a passion for home renovation. His first renovation was an old barn that became the family’s first house. Hans also built the first high rise apartment building in Prince Albert, Hilltop Towers. Hans lived in Prince Albert with Johanna for 23 years raising four children; Ann-Marie, Dennis, Eric and Paul. In 1977, after 23 years in the Saskatchewan cold, Hans and Johanna, Eric and Paul moved to Nanaimo. Their first home was on White Eagle Terrace. Hans liked to work hard. He built numerous homes in Nanaimo, all which ended up as residences for his family. Hans also built and operated the Northgate Motor Inn in Nanaimo. Hans loved to travel and was an avid fisherman, greatly enjoying his time on and near the ocean. Hans was a man of powerful personality and made a strong impression on those that met him. He is greatly missed by family and friends. Hans is survived by three sons, Dennis, Eric and Paul, grandchildren Cori-Ann Mogan, Karen Cogswell, Amanda Cherney and great grandchildren. Hans was predeceased by his wife Johanna, daughter Ann-Marie and grandson Sean. Interment will take place in Nanaimo at Cedar Memorial Gardens where Hans will be laid to rest with his beloved Johanna. Interment date not yet determined.
