Delmar Fredrik George Neilsen, December 2, 1939 – December 25, 2024
It is with profound sadness that the family of Delmar Nielsen announces his peaceful passing on December 25, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 2, 1939, in Saskatchewan, Delmar lived a life of unwavering dedication, hard work, and quiet generosity. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Grace Elliott Nielsen, a partnership filled with love, strength, and devotion. Together, they built a beautiful family and a legacy of kindness. Delmar was a proud and loving father to Tammie Myles (Dave) and Inga Cooper (Larry), and a cherished grandfather to Rikki, Courtney, Jaxxen, Brin, Devin, Autumn, and Brianna. His heart grew even fuller as a great-grandfather to eight great-granddaughters, each of whom brought him immense joy. He was predeceased by his parents, Winnifred Nielsen (née Halliday) and Karl Nielsen, and his brother, Clarence Plumb. Though their loss was deeply felt, Delmar carried forward their memory through his humbled values he instilled in his family. A man of few words, Delmar expressed his love and care through his actions. Whether through his support of those he loved or his quiet acts of generosity, he made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was truly a self-made man, as a master carpenter retired from the Chemainus mill he also volunteered countless hours to Tillicum Lelum in labour. Del is known for his tireless work ethic and his dedication to family and friends. Delmar’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and kindness. His family takes comfort in knowing that his values and spirit will continue to live on in the lives he touched. A service will be held for Delmar by his family for those who wish to share in the celebration of his life on January 25 at 1pm at the Stzuminus Community Centre Rest in peace, Delmar. Your quiet strength and generous heart will never be forgotten.
