Thomas Monaghan – April 6th, 1936 – January 9th, 2024
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Thomas Monaghan on January 9th, 2024, in Nanaimo, Canada. Survived by wife Jean, children Angus (Carene), David (Elizabeth), Heather (Thomas), Sean (Celeste), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he leaves a lasting legacy. Tom, born in England, migrated to Canada at 19 after serving in the British Army. In Alberta, he was a self-reliant man, handling all tasks, including vehicle repairs and home construction. His professional life was dedicated to Psychiatric Nursing and Remotivational Therapy, providing vital support to many. A sports and fitness enthusiast, Tom introduced soccer to Namao, Alberta, and participated in numerous races. His younger years were spent cycling across England and later British Columbia. A lover of arts, he deeply appreciated music, poetry, literature, and painting, impacting many with his artistic passions. Family was central to Tom’s life. His 63-year marriage to Jean was a pillar of love and resilience. He cherished moments with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories and stories. As we remember Tom, we celebrate his love for nature, sports, music, self-sufficiency, and his profound impact on his family. His values and memories continue to inspire us. A Celebration of Life will be held this Spring in Nanaimo, BC, with details forthcoming.
