Ronald Edmund MacDonald – April 11, 1944 – June 28, 2023
Age 79, Ronald Edmund MacDonald passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. A resident of Victoria and Nanaimo, British Colombia for 53 years, Ron was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on April 11, 1944, to the late Raymond and Marguerite MacDonald, the second oldest of 7 brothers and sisters. Scron or Scronnie, as he was fondly known, attended St Johns Academy and New Glasgow High School, played on his high school basketball team and enjoyed playing senior baseball in New Glasgow (North End Cardinals) and Victoria. Ron was an avid reader and loved music. Self-taught, he played piano and guitar and performed with bands in Nanaimo for many years. Golf, however, was his passion. Ron took an interest as a young man and joined the Abercrombie Golf Club in New Glasgow as a junior member. Soon after, golf became his principal pastime and shooting his age was something he did frequently over the last few years. Ron enjoyed a full life in British Columbia and the Nanaimo Golf Club was his home away from home. He cherished his home club and his friends with whom he shared his love of golf and music. Ron was predeceased by sister Mary (MacDonald) Falkenham, and survived by brothers Ray (Mary) MacDonald of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia; Rich (Barb) MacDonald of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia; and Ross (Jennifer) MacDonald of Kings Head, Nova Scotia; sisters Susan (Malcolm Hutt) Fanning, of Pictou Landing, Nova Scotia; and Kathy (MacDonald) Piracha, of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and several nieces, nephews and their extended families. Ron came home to New Glasgow every summer and it was commented recently he had one foot planted firmly on each end of the country. Friends and family on both coasts will miss him dearly. Arrangements were entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services in Nanaimo. A private cremation has taken place.
