November 18, 1934 ~ November 8, 2019 (age 84)
Alois (Al) died peacefully at Stanford Place (Eagleview) on Friday, November 8th.
Al was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, the only son of Katerina and George Held.
After he had begun working in the oilfields at an early age, he joined the Canadian National Railway Police and served with the, for the next 35 years at a variety of assignments and responsibilities. Al also volunteered as a cub scout leader with the Boy Scouts of Canada.
Al met his wife, Catherine while on assignment at Jasper Park Lodge. They were married for 50 years, and their son, Graham and his wife, Lara, gave them two grandchildren, Kathryn and Andrew.
After his retirement from C.N. Police, Al and Catherine moved to Saltspring Island and experienced many interesting travel destinations. In 2002 they moved to Qualicum Beach where they enjoyed life in Eaglecrest and being part of the Church family at St. Columba Presbyterian Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Juralowicz and Dr. El Karsh, as well as the “army” of home-support workers, who allowed Al to stay home until his last few months. Thanks also go to the exceptional caregiving staff at Stanford Place for their part in the final stages of Al’s journey.
