APRIL 4, 1934 ~ AUGUST 11, 2019 (AGE 85)
In Loving Memory of
Garry Morley Hahn
April 4, 1934 to August 11, 2019
who passed away peacefully on the morning of August 11, 2019. Garry is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 60 years Sylvia, son Guy (Shirley), daughters Shelley and Meredith, sister Doreen Telosky, sister-in-law Marilyn Hahn, brother-in-law Alan Lyons, grandchildren Guinevere Howes, Jessica Docksteader (Ben), Jon Palen (Norma) and great grandchild Lily Docksteader, as well as nieces and nephews and numerous close family friends.
Garry is predeceased by: Rudolph Hahn (father), Jean (nee Srigley, mother), brothers Dick and Harvey (Sylvia), and brother-in-law Sam Telosky.
Garry was born in Regina, Saskatchewan but spent most of his adult life on Vancouver Island. At the young age of 14, Garry began his logging career as a whistle punk and a cat skinner, working various machines including a Steam Donkey. Garry was fearless and there wasn’t a machine he couldn’t run. In the summers, he spent his time commercial fishing. After Sylvia, fishing was Garry’s true love. He felt at home on the water and headed out to sea any chance he could. Garry never really retired and continued to mill lumber right up until he became ill. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his kindness, generosity, and his unfailing faith in God. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mirka Owen (GP) and Dr. Susan Hunter (Palliative Care) for their loving care, the staff at the Trillium Lodge Hospice who made his last days very comfortable, and all the home care support workers who made his time at home much easier.
Memorial to be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 1069 Smithers Road, Parksville, on Saturday, August the 24th at 2pm.
