Obituary
Andrew (Andy) George Gubbins, of Deep Bay, BC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a two-year courageous battle with cancer on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the age of 65.
Andy was born to parents William and Georgina Gubbins on June 27, 1954 in Victoria, BC. He grew up as the youngest of three children and was always referred to as the baby in the family by his brother Bill and sister Wendy. In 1975, he became a family man and began working for the BC Forest Service and had a career as a G.I.S. mapper that spanned almost 30 years. After he retired from the forest service, he moved to Fanny Bay, BC, where he met the love of his life, Loni Gubbins who he later married on October 29, 2011. There they enjoyed their quiet life with their canine companion Missy and feline friend Taz, spending time by the ocean which he loved so much. During this time he worked as a taxi driver in the Comox Valley which he enjoyed very much as he got to talk to many people from different walks of life and share his love of useless trivia.
He had a great love of all music and played accordion, piano, guitar, and bass guitar and many a family gathering was spent filled with love, laughter and music supplied by him and his brother Bill. He had a vast knowledge of many things and was always willing to share and teach anyone that wanted to learn. Even though he had a late start talking as a child he more than made up for it in later life and was more than willing to talk your ear off about anything and everything given half the chance. He was a kind, gentle, and loving man and was there to lend a hand for anyone in need.
Andy is survived by his wife Loni Gubbins; his son Peter Gubbins, daughter Karen (Ryan) Beddington, daughter Celina (Greg) McArthur, and daughter Bobbi (BJ) Peckford; eight grandchildren, Pamela, Beau, Sky, Chay, Brody, William, Kent, and Leo; and one great-grandson Bentley. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Georgina; his nephew Christopher Bertrand; his brother William (Bill) Gubbins, and his sister Wendy Bertrand.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Andy on June 27, 2020, at the Bowser Legion, located at 7035 Island Hwy W, Bowser, BC V0R 1G0.
