DECEMBER 28, 1936 ~ NOVEMBER 5, 2018 (AGE 81)
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Douglas on November 5, 2018 at the Nanaimo Regional Hospital. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy, his sons Jim (Jennifer), Dave (Esther) and his daughter Sheryl (Bruce). He is also survived by his eight grandchildren – Kierra, Graeme, Michaela, Rebecca, Chris, Brendan, Jordan and Konner. Also, his brother Bob (Lynn) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill lived on his beloved Sunshine Coast for over 50 years, building his first home in Hopkins. He drove transport and building supply trucks for many years before becoming a lift truck driver at Port Mellon mill. He ended his trucking career with Imperial Oil in Hopkins. Bill also owned two businesses, a Pool Supply and an Ice Plant. He delivered ice blocks and cubes up and down the Coast for several years.
Bill was an avid fisherman for many years mooring his 18 foot “Bachelor Girl” next to the Hopkins Landing dock. After moving to Vernon he purchased a fifth wheel so that he and Nancy could travel in comfort on many camping holidays. Bill was also an avid golfer and upon retirement rarely missed a day on the course. However, gradually over the past 18 years, his activities and lifestyle were taken from him due to Parkinson’s disease.
A family and friends celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, November 17th from 1 pm to 3 pm at Knox United Church, 345 Pym Street, Parksville, in the Lounge.
Donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Parkinson’s Society of B.C.
