November 11, 1933 ~ January 7, 2018 (age 84)
My dearest Lou left us gently in the early morning of January 7, 2018 at Glacier View Lodge surrounded by those who cared for him and loved his sweet nature.
Lou was born and raised in Vancouver BC, attended John Oliver High School and began his working life at the Vancouver Sun newspaper. Over the next few years he married and joined the army where he worked as a cryptographer and travelled the world for 25 years before retiring to Comox which he called “God’s country”.
His great joy in becoming a Master Mason and a Worshipful Brother was only equalled when he joined the Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as an officer continuously for 22 years, being a Worthy Patron 7 times.
Lou loved animals, especially dogs which the family owned for over 50 years. Some were rescue dogs and he cherished them all. Lou also loved music and our house rang with song over the years.
He moved to Glacier View Lodge on November 8, 2017 and he dearly loved the care staff he knew from his daycare days was loved in return.
Lou is survived by Margo, his wife of 66 years, one daughter Dody Castonguay (Al) of Courtenay, two sons; Mark (Helene) of Calgary, AB, and Harry (Carla) or Surrey, BC. Grandchildren Monique (Stephen) and Lynda Castonguay of Edmonton, Scott Bonnell of Calgary, and Ben and Adam Bonnell of Comox.
Great grandchildren Katie, Audry, Abby, Kylie and KaCe all of Edmonton. Niece Heather Renaud and nephews Mike and Pat Pearson of Haileybury, ON. Nephew Don Rogelstad of Port Moody, BC. Extended family Carol and Ralph Jessup and their daughters; Shirley, Wendy, and Catherine all of Winchester UK.
Many thanks for Dr. Wayne Crowe for his care and attention over thirty-two years. Also thanks and gratitude to Glacier View Lodge, staff and residents for their love and respect.
Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
A Celebration of Lou’s life will be held in the future.
