Obituary
Bruce Berry of Qualicum Beach , born June 14, 1928 in Vancouver, passed away January 27, 2020 in the presence of loved ones. He was 91 years young and led an active and fulfilling life. Bruce spent his early years in Salmon Arm and Agassiz, coming to the Alberni Valley in 1947. He worked with his father at Berry’s IGA store in those early years. He then met a young nurse, Edith, in 1951 and went on to marry and raise four daughters. After many years living out at “the lake”, Bruce and Edith retired to Nanoose Bay in 1992. Bruce was a realtor for many years – President of Mid Island Realty and of the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board. He was very social and a leader throughout his life. He served his communities well, being a founding member and, for several years, an active volunteer of the Mt. Arrowsmith Ski Club and of the Port Alberni Salmon Barbeque. He was also a Lt. Governor for the Kiwanis Club. That drive for volunteerism followed him into retirement where he was past President and life member of the Schooner Cove Yacht Club, Past Commander of Nanoose Power Squadron, a member of the PDQ flyers, and member of the Qualicum Beach Flying Club. In his “spare” time Bruce, with Edith, cruised on their sailboat, drove across the country and up to Alaska in their van, and traveled to distant lands.
Bruce led an inspiring life of purpose shaped by his never ending curiosity, love of adventure, and pursuit of his passions which he loved to share with family and his many friends.
Bruce leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Edith, his four daughters: Karen (Ron), Lynn (Rick), Brenda (Mike), Beverly (Dave), and five grandchildren: Jennifer, Chelsey (Corey), Kimberly (Leoh), Stephen (Michele). and Katelyn (Matt), and four great grandchildren: Connor, Hunter, Breyer and Aurelia, also several nieces and nephews. Bruce was loving and much loved. If desired, donations in Bruce’s name may be made to The Salvation Army or The Canadian Heart and Stroke Fund.
Memorial service will be held February 6, 2020 , 11: 00 am at Yates Memorial, 1000 Allsbrook Rd. Parksville BC
