Alexander Bajkov – August 29, 1927 to November 21, 2024
In Loving Memory of Alexander Bajkov (August 29, 1927 – November 21st, 2024) Alexander (Alex) Bajkov died peacefully on November 21st, 2024 in Nanaimo, British Columbia at the age of 97 years. Alex was born August 29th, 1933, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1950 where he served in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Portsmouth, England and Esquimalt, British Columbia over a 24 year career. Upon retirement from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander Alex served with the BC Ferries Corporation over a fifteen-year span. Upon Alex’s retirement from BC Ferries he emersed himself into his three favourite hobbies … stamp collecting, fishing and photography. He especially enjoyed sharing many a salmon catch with all family members over a number of years. He also enjoyed international travelling with his wife Iris especially to Europe and South America. Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Iris (Gilhen), his daughter Sandra Longeuay and his brother Alexis Bajkov. He is survived by his children: Alan Bajkov of Osoyoos, B.C., Philip Bajkov of Prince George, B.C., Joan Cuniliffe of Sooke, B.C., Ian Bajkov of Nanaimo, B.C and Andrew Bajkov, Whiterock, B.C. He is also survived by his sister Tanyia Fredheim of Nanaimo, B.C., his bother Nick Bajkov of Mill Bay, B.C. and eleven grandchildren. A further announcement on a celebration of life will be made in early 2025.
