It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Lealofi Ash. She passed away peacefully at home with her husband Harvey by her side. Lofi was predeceased by her father, Etuati; mother, Malaga; uncles, Villiane and Ropati; brothers, Sa’aloa, Upolo, Savili, and Savaii. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Harvey Ash; son, Patrick Ash (Heather); beloved grandson, Sione; brothers, Titi, Ropati, and Kerisiano; sisters, Pae Pae, Teu, and Lafo. The Leung Wai family of Apia also loved Lealofi as a daughter and sister through her teenage years, supporting her when she lived with them to be closer to the hospital due to her Rheumatic fever. Lofi was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her large extended family and close friends all over the world.
Lealofi had a very happy childhood in Savaii, Western Samoa. She excelled in her school studies and loved participating in sports. Lofi initially relocated to New Zealand for heart surgery. After recovering she decided to study and work as a nurse in the Wellington Hospital. She met her husband in 1969, marrying in 1973. They moved to Regina, SK a year later and their son Patrick was born in 1975. In 1979 they moved to Parksville, BC where Lealofi started work as a highly trained home support worker. She continued this work for 23 years. Lofi enjoyed her career and the close relationships she made there; to this day her retired coworkers met for coffee every Thursday. In retirement, Lofi provided respite care for elderly friends and past clients. Lealofi worshipped at St Columba Presbyterian Church as well as Wildwood Community Church, and the Cumberland Community Church. She was active in the local badminton club and loved to watch professional tennis. Lealofi was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished friend. She cared deeply about people and enriched our lives with her grace, bright smile, and laughter.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 12th, 2018 at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Rd., Parksville. Harvey will be accompanying Lealofi on her last journey to Samoa, her final resting place.
