Helen Gillian D. Arrowsmith – September 6th, 1932 – March 9th, 2024
In loving memory of Helen, Gillian, D. Arrowsmith. Much-loved mother, grandmother and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully on March 9th 2024, at the age of 91. Helen was the youngest of two children, she was born in a small farming community of Alberta to Alice (née Knowles) and Clive. She grew up in Vancouver’s Point Grey neighbourhood attending Lord Bing school, after graduating high school, she lived in the UK for a couple of years working at Harrods department store in London. Upon returning to Vancouver, she attended UBC and met Ronald (RJ) Rivington, the two were married in 1955 and together they had four children, three sons and a daughter. After settling in Nanaimo in the late 50s, Helen attended Malaspina and worked in Public Service for over 25 years. Helen will be remembered for her great sense of humour, generosity and kind nature, always giving to those who were less fortunate. Her family was very important to her, she also enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking, gardening, visiting friends and travelling extensively in Europe. Helen is predeceased by her second-born son, Bryon. Survived by her children Ian, David, and Christa as well as five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A woman of strength, grace and dignity, Helen will be immensely missed.
