Gerald was born in Nanaimo and grew up in Hilliers. Gerald and Margaret raised their children and many other critters on the original family homestead.
Gerald spent much of his life, 45 plus years, in the forest as a pole contractor. He was an original partner in Van West Pole Co. One of his proudest moments as a pole contractor was falling a pole for the mast of the Canadian Bluenose sailing ship.
Gerald enjoyed farming, gardening and hunting. He was fortunate to go on several trips with his sons. Gerald will be remembered for his smile and one liners, sometimes laughing the hardest at his own jokes.
Gerald’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff and volunteers at Eagle Park Care Facility in Qualicum Beach, were he resided for the past 3 years. The staff and volunteers of the palliative care unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for the caring support while Gerald was there. Gerald will be greatly missed by his family.
