Polar Bear Splash goes New Years day in Parksville

PARKSVILLE — Hundreds of people are expected to take an icy plunge to start their 2019 in Parksville.

The annual Polar Bear Splash hosted by the Regional District of Nanaimo happens Tuesday, Jan 1 at 12 p.m. at Parksville Beach. Registration for the free event happens at 11:30 a.m.

Hot beverages and snacks will be available by donation.

Local first responders, including members of the Parksville Volunteer Fire Dept. will provide on-shore medical aid if required.

The annual Boxing Day polar bear swim at Nanaimo’s Departure Bay Beach draw strong crowds.
