NanaimoNewsNOW reached out to every municipal candidate to present an easy-to-read and informative guide for our readers to help with the upcoming municipal election. All candidates were asked the same four questions, which are presented here without being edited.

Biography:

Being a business owner and former hotel owner, I am aware of what is needed to make a city progress into the future with, diversity, economic stability, environmental responsibility and most importantly planning.

I enjoy my volunteer work at the Eagles with the motto of people helping people, with the Shrine, were we raise money for the Shrine Children’s Hospital. I have been the President of Port Moody’s Golden Spike Days, with the World Championship Hand Car races, we had the full cooperation of the city of Port Moody.

I will make myself fully accessible to the public as I do consider myself a public servant and will take this job on as a full time job. We as a Council need to work with the other stake holders in the community, for the betterment of the city. Cooperation is the key word for everyone to progress to a vibrant future that we all want for the city and our children.

Question 1: Describe, in detail, what you view as the most important duties associated with the role of being a councillor/Mayor?

The most important duty is to listen to the people as to what they want done and achieved with the city.

Question 2: Describe your vision for Nanaimo beyond the next four years

I would like to see Nanaimo on the list for environment friendly cities. I would like to see bettor transportation for the handicapped and for the general population as well. Speed up the permit requests, two years is to long for people that are making an investment in our community.

Question 3: If you were making a list of your top three strategic priorities for the incoming Council to focus on over the next four years, what would it be and why?

Tent city has the priority right now, but we need to address the root causes of the problem.  Nanaimo has an Action Plan to End Homelessness 2018-2023 and it should be acted on and not left as another report. Transportation can always be improved, we need to look at where the flow of traffic has changed and look at the solution to the problem. Education is the most important thing that any society needs and should be there, even for the seniors, you never stop learning. We need activities for everybody of any age to keep the population healthy.

Question 4: What is your strategy for dealing with the intense pressure and scrutiny placed upon elected officials, especially from those who may not agree with your decisions or viewpoints?

I have my vision of being open and accessible to the public as I will be considering myself as a public servant that is there for the majority of the people. As a council we will vote on issues for the good of the city as a whole, it is a vote.
