Your full itinerary for Hometown Hockey weekend

Feb 24, 2017 | 4:11 PM

NANAIMO — After months an anticipation, Hometown Hockey is here.

Ron MacLean and Tara Slone’s broadcast will start at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Maffeo Sutton Park but there’s numerous activities before then.

Friday is city-wide Jersey Day. Everyone’s encouraged to show off their hockey passion by wearing their favourite jerseys, no matter what league it’s from.

The action gets underway on Saturday at noon, with live music from indie soul band Lovecoast and autograph signing from retired Canucks goaltender Kirk McLean and defenseman Willie Mitchell, who is from Port McNeill. They’ll be at the park all day.

The zipline, which was a big hit the first weekend, will re-open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It and the outdoor rink will be open all weekend. McLean and Mitchell will return for autographs on Sunday while Nanaimo-based blues musician David Gogo serenades the crowd starting at 11:30 a.m.

When both games, Edmonton and Nashville and Ottawa at Florida, are over the skies above Nanaimo will light up with fireworks at roughly 7:30 p.m.

Full schedules can be found online.
