New Nanaimo RCMP K9 takes out prolific offender on the run

NANAIMO — The newest member of the Nanaimo RCMP’s K9 division took down a prolific offender in a south Nanaimo neighbourhood.

Police said police dog Juice and his handler Cst. Clay Wurzinger tracked down the alleged 40-year-old prolific offender near Marban Rd. in Chase River around noon on Wednesday.

They were called after residents reportedly came face-to-face with the thief in their basement. They chased the suspect out of the house, at which point RCMP stepped in.

Just a short time later, the man was found and taken down.

During the arrest, police said the suspect resisted and was injured by Juice. He’s now in hospital but is expected to be released and taken to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment to await his court appearance.
