Martin Arthur Holland, April 21, 1964 – November 22, 2025
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are respectfully announcing the passing of Martin (Marty) Arthur Holland, April 21, 1964 – November 22, 2025, at the age of 61 in Courtenay, BC. Martin leaves behind his Common Law Spouse of three years, Patricia Taylor, where they shared a home together in Courtenay, BC, and his loving family: sister Linda Holland (Vancouver, BC), the late William (Bill) Robertson (brother-in-law, Victoria, BC, brother Wayne Holland, (Eileen) of Abbotsford, BC, niece Kelly Funk (Mike) of Abbotsford and their children, Scarlett, Archer and Sophia, nephew Matthew Holland (Emily) of Pitt Meadows, BC, sister-in Law Frances Tycho (Brian) of Vancouver, BC, his Aunt Joan and Uncle Gerry (Halifax) and Uncle Frank and Aunt Pauline (Pembroke, Ont.), and Martin’s parents (the late Donald & Helen Holland, of Halifax, NS & Coquitlam, BC.) who welcomed him into the next life. As well as many friends and cousins throughout Canada: NS, PEI and NB. Martin was born in Ste. Foy, Quebec; he was a military BRAT (Born, Raised and Transferred) and lived throughout Canada until he settled in BC; living in Vancouver, Mission, Chilliwack and finally Courtenay. A quiet and gentle soul, Martin devoted many years serving the BC community as a 911 operator. He also enjoyed keeping his community safe as a security guard where he often put his life on the line. Martin’s brilliance expressed itself in his wood carving art. He and his partner made wood carvings and took the show on the road and online selling their wooden art treasures. Many of us enjoyed Martin’s wit and ability to tell an entertaining story. Nature and camping were nurturing to Martin, and he went out as often as possible, sometimes to camp, cook a meal over an open fire or just lean against a log at the water’s edge reading Don Quixote or walking and sitting along the Fraser River’s bank. These pastimes made Marty happy. To quote Brian May of Queen: “Who wants to live forever?” “We all have but a moment in time.” Marty lived his moment and can now move on to the place where there is no time – a place called Forever. Rest in Peace dear brother, son, lover and friend. Martin has been cremated, and we celebrate his life and his place in ours. We will continue to love him and miss him – until we meet again.
