Port Alberni men sentenced

Apr 2, 2026 | 8:58 AM

A 20-year old Port Alberni man benefitted from catch-and-release policies for 6 months, but has now been sent to jail.

From July to December last year, Kyle Hunter got caught committing at least one crime each month.

He stole from the liquor store and gone fishin’, threatened people with knives and axes, was caught on camera trespassing on peoples properties at night, then smashed a jail phone while in custody.

Hunter has no previous criminal record but has mental health and addiction issues.

On Monday Judge Alexander Wolf sentenced him to 9 months in jail – the maximum recommended by Crown Counsel, plus a further 2 years probation.

A 29-year old Port Alberni man with a lengthy criminal record was given a 4-month Community Sentence Order after trying to break in to Canadian Tire.

Raven LeBlanc had just completed his probation on similar charges when he was caught red-handed trying to steal from the business.

He will be under strict curfew conditions, be forced to complete 20 hours of community service, then be on probation for another 12 months.
