Short manned Clippers fall to Grizzlies in overtime

Mar 28, 2026 | 8:25 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers sat out several regulars but still earned a point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Victoria Grizzlies.

Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau, Will Subject, Patrick Fortune and Elliot Perreault were all healthy scratches to make way for affiliates Keegan Lundie, Ryland DeMars, Rolan Amin and Ethan Suhr.

Nanaimo got down 2-0 on a pair of Artur Gross power play goals but Nick Morin’s first goal as a Clipper, also on the power play, and Charles Beland’s 15th of the season brought the score to 2-2 heading into the second intermission.

Tanner Bruender’s third period man advantage goal gave Nanaimo a shortlived 3-2 lead before Jack McDonough tied the contest while the teams were four on four to force overtime.

Early in the extra session the Grizzlies Owen Warnick ended the game, giving Victoria their fourth consecutive win over Nanaimo.

Both teams went 2/5 on the power play with the Clippers outshooting the Grizzlies 35-34.

Matthew Hutchison took the loss against Mikus Vecvanags who is now 4-0 in his career against Nanaimo.

Pending other action those two teams could face each other in the opening round of the BCHL playoffs.

Nanaimo will play either the Grizzlies or Bulldogs in a series that will start on April 3 at Frank Crane Arena.

The Clippers have a 2-3-1 record versus Victoria and will conclude the regular season against the Grizzlies on March 29 at the Q Centre.
