Lantzville culvert replacement disrupts Dickinson Road traffic

Aug 6, 2025 | 12:28 PM

LANTZVILLE — Dealing with a failing culvert beneath Lantzville’s Dickinson Road is now underway, resulting in traffic delays for the next several weeks.

Delcy Wells, director of corporate administration for the District of Lantzville, said a mix of single-lane alternating and a full closure will be applied.

“It is really important to get it replaced because obviously if a culvert fails altogether then we have the risk of flood and damage to vehicles and so on,” Wells told NanaimoNewsNOW.

A full road closure is anticipated between August 12 and 19, Wells said, who noted detours around the impacted areas will be established during that time.

Local residents have been told the work may extend into early next month.

“The actual anticipated completion date is August 22, but we’ve just built in some time in our announcements just in case anything delays the project,” Wells pointed out.

A primary contractor and engineering firm are executing the project on behalf of the District.

“The road has these bumps in it, that was the sign the culvert was failing,” Wells said, who noted the source of the water running through the culvert is from storm drainage.

She noted the project’s budget is nearly $293,000.
