QUALICUM BEACH — Police in Oceanside are asking for the public’s help trying to identify who is placing piles of rocks on the Inland Island Hwy. (Hwy. 19), causing damage to a number of vehicles.

Oceanside RCMP received multiple reports of piles of rocks being found in both directions of the highway over the weekend near the Corcan Rd. overpass north of Qualicum Beach.

Cst. Tim Kenning said the incidents occurred between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. the nights of Thursday, May 1, through Sunday, May 4, and they believe the rocks were placed there deliberately.

“Looks like they’re being placed on the highway. There decent in size, six inches to eight, nine inches in size placed in little piles on both the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway, which can cause problems to traffic, especially because it’s dark out at the time of night and unsuspecting vehicles just don’t have time to react and hit them.”
