NANAIMO — A strong Pacific storm which brought considerable rainfall early Monday morning is causing new headaches as the day continues.

Wind gusts upwards of 90 kilometres are expected across parts of eastern Vancouver Island on Monday, Nov. 4 as a system moves through. Environment Canada issued a wind warning early Monday advising of the pending gusts.

The storm has seen a number of moderate to large power outages as tree branches come in contact with power lines, or the lines fall completely.

Just over 3,000 properties in Qualicum Beach, Whiskey Creek and Coombs lost power shortly after 10 a.m.

Updates from BC Hydro show crews have been assigned to a major outage affecting 2,400 properties, with an estimated arrival of 11:30 a.m.

A similar outage in north Nanaimo, along Hammond Bay Rd. occurred around 11 a.m. and is affecting just under 2,000 people.

Other outages will be dealt with on a priority basis.

Issues have been relatively limited further south with minor outages reported in Nanaimo and Lantzville.

Each outage affected less than 300 properties.
