Local man suspected of dealing drugs arrested in downtown Nanaimo

NANAIMO — A Nanaimo man is facing a number of drug charges after being busted allegedly dealing drugs downtown.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 27, the Nanaimo RCMP bike unit was patrolling in the Wesley St. area when they learned someone in the area was suspected of dealing street-level drugs.

Officers located the man in question around 2:00 p.m. and arrested him. A search of his stuff found just over a thousand dollars Canadian, drug scales, a small amount of what is believed to be crystal meth, fentanyl, and around 500 grams of suspected cocaine.

The man was later released from custody while police continue their investigation.

Three charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking have been forwarded to the Crown.

Reserve. Cst. Gary O’Brien said their bike unit and Community Safety Officers carry out daily patrols in the area which has seen a rise in crime.

“This area has been under considerable pressure for some time from criminals who take advantage of marginalized individuals struggling with various forms of drug addictions. This seizure is the direct result of their hard work and diligence.”
