Hikers fight for Log Train Trail

Cherry Creek residents with properties around the Log Trail Trail are concerned about an increase in motorized vehicles.
Keith Wyton said the popular walking path is now more racetrack than trail, as the regional district gave tacit approval to ATV’s
“There’s issues around safety and accessibility, the regional district recently adopted accessibility plan so making the trail accessible for all users,” he said. “The safety is an issue with no traffic separation on a narrow trail with motorized vehicles and pedestrians of all sorts.”
Wyton wants the southern part of the log train trail preserved for hikers, horses and cyclists, with the northern part of the trail open to ATV’s and side-by-sides.
He has lobbied the provincial government since the southern section of the trail belongs to them, but they refer the issue back to the regional district.
Neighbours plan to push the issue as a provincial election looms.
