VIDEO: Funkanometry finish just short in Canada’s Got Talent finale

NANAIMO — Two of the Island’s finest performers did all they could, but barely missed out on the grand prize.

The Island-based dance duo of Jacksun Fryer and Carlow Rush placed second in the latest season of Canada’s Got Talent, missing out on the grand prize to Prince Albert, SK singer Rebecca Strong during the Tuesday, May 14 episode of the show.

In a bold move, Funkanometry left much of their final performance up to the judges, letting them control the pace and flow of the dance which was to Queen’s “We Are The Champions.”

Judges flipped paddles with ‘Faster’ or ‘Slower’ with Rush and Fryer adjusting to match.

Their dance brought the crowd to their feet and audience voting propelled the pair into the final two before Strong was announced as the winner of a $1 million grand prize.

Graciously, Fryer and Rush congratulated Strong and exited the stage.

Online reaction to Funkanometry was overwhelmingly positive, with countless tweets and messages of support posted after the show.

“So sorry guys, you deserved it! Very proud of our island boys!,” Theresa Crowden wrote.

“Another amazing performance! Your talent is stellar! I wouldn’t wish that the winner would lose but I was definitely hoping that you would win,” Kat commented. “Your act is universal. You don’t need to be classed as an “English” act or as a “French” act. You appeal to all ages, colours, and creeds.”

“Second place is phenomenal! I hope the show’s coverage of you guys leads you to some wonderful opportunities,” another account commented.

It’s the latest national or worldwide exposure for the pair from Nanaimo and Duncan.

They performed in 2022 on America’s Got Talent and have past appearances on World of Dance as well.

Rush and Fryer are also staple performers at large events across Vancouver Island, in addition to dancing in new and unique locations for their various social media channels.
