NANAIMO — The City of Nanaimo has a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Dale Lindsay was appointed as the new CAO following a Special Council meeting on Thursday, Sept. 7, and will start his new role on Oct. 2, after filling the role of deputy CAO from last year until now.

According to a news release from the City, Lindsay brings with him 29 years of management and leadership experience working in local government, with 27 of those years with the City of Nanaimo.

Previous positions Lindsay held in Nanaimo include director of community development from 2013-2019, and the general manager of development services from 2019 until now.

Mayor Leonard Krog said Council is thrilled Lindsay has accepted the position, saying he’s demonstrated strong leadership on Council and within the community.

“The respect he warrants and leadership he provides has been earned through his dedication to building and maintaining relationships internally and externally, always striving for governance excellence, providing mentorship to his colleagues and serving the community, Mayor, Council and staff with the utmost of integrity.”

Lindsay said in the release he’s excited to get started in his new role.

“I am very honoured to take on this new role and for the opportunity to work closely with Mayor and Council to advance their priorities and initiatives for our Community. As CAO I look forward to supporting our dedicated staff and to build on existing relationships with our many community partners who are key to the success of Nanaimo.”

Lindsay’s credentials include being a registered professional planner and a member of both the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators and the Local Government Management Administration.

Former Nanaimo CAO Jake Rudolph retired earlier this year after a career which spanned over 40 years, including almost five with the top job in the Harbour City.
