NANAIMO — A man was injured after the motorbike he was riding was hit by a car on the Island Hwy. at Mostar Rd.

It happened on Friday, Jan 20 at 11 p.m. when the southbound motorcyclist was hit at the intersection.

“He was stopped in the turn lane, he was hit from behind, he was to go left onto Rutherford toward McDonald’s,” stated Metral Dr. resident Brit Parkin.

His backyard social gathering was interrupted by the unmistakable sound of a crash.

Parkin sprinted to the intersection with his First Aid kit in hand.

He stabilized the patient, who was conscious on scene with unknown injuries.

Parkin phoned the fallen rider’s mother to explain what happened and that her son was heading to Nanaimo hospital.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue confirmed the injured rider was fully conscious and communicating on scene.

Southbound traffic at the intersection was closed for several hours.

Parkin said he’s deployed his First Aid skills multiple times in response to motor vehicle crashes in the local area and elsewhere.

He said it’s satisfying to be able to help people when the need it the most.

“It means a lot, I’ve been through a couple big accidents where its given me some PTSD, some major collisions, It’s still the same thing, grab the First Aid kit and go.”

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating the incident.
