NANAIMO — A pickup truck damaged the exterior of London Drugs at Nanaimo North Town Shopping Centre following a mid day accident.

Calls to 911 on Thursday, Oct. 6 just before 12 p.m. when a dark pickup truck parked in front of the store hopped the curb and drove into the corner of the building.

The driver, a man in his mid 70’s, was briefly unresponsive shortly after the incident, telling witnesses he blacked out momentarily.

He was treated on scene by paramedics, complaining of neck soreness.

No other injuries were reported as the nearest other people to the incident were at least 10 feet away from the pickup when it hit the building, according to witnesses.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue cordoned off an area around the crash, including restricting traffic around the curve in front of the mall entrance during the noon hour.

RCMP officers also attended the scene.

The truck sustained significant front-end damage, while the exterior to London Drugs sustained minor, non-structural damage.
