Total COVID-19 case count in Island Health passes 1,000, active cases across B.C. drop
NANAIMO — Island Health’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases passed a major milestone.
Data from the health authority showed nine new cases were confirmed Tuesday, Jan. 5 taking the total number of cases throughout the pandemic to 1,001.
As of Tuesday, 122 are currently active with 40 in the central Vancouver Island region.
Island Health initially reported 108 active cases on Monday, Jan. 4, including 30 in the central Island region. A later correction to the health authority COVID-19 dashboard updated figures to show 117 active cases including 34 in the central region.
